Metallica Rock Knebworth, Win Kerrang Award and Head Back to States

Well it has been a busy summer so far for Metallica so let's take a look at what they've been up to lately. Most recently they played at the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth. The long tradition of rock at Knebworth continues and Metallica closed the show in front of 80,000 fans. They last played here back in 1986 and this time around they declared it the highlight of their European Tour. They fired through an energetic 2 hour set and even paid tribute to Queen who played their last ever gig at Knebworth alongside Metallica back in 1986.

The gig also coincided with James Hetfield's birthday and at the end of the performance he was pelted with cream pies by his wife and crew. Before leaving he said “Thank you for a great birthday! You kicked arse Sonisphere!” Metallica followed Nine Inch Nails in their last ever European appearance but they easily ramped the crowd up a notch kicking off with Blackened and rattling through an excellent set which included One, Fuel, Master of Puppets, Cyanide, Enter Sandman and ended on Seek and Destroy. There was also time for their Queen cover Stone Cold Crazy.

In other news Death Magnetic won Best Album at the Kerrang Awards on the 3rd August and they sent bassist Robert Trujillo to pick up the award for the rest of the band. He looked like he enjoyed the event.

The Death Magnetic Tour has returned to the States now and there are several more dates arranged for September and October.
